Celtish Christmas

We had the joy of hosting Nigel Cameron and Julie Cameron-Hall at Lighthouse cafe in Great Gransden as part of their Celtish Christmas Tour of the UK and Ireland. To put it simply, it was stunning. A friend of mine described it as having a shower for the soul. The tangible presence and lavish love…

Prayer paintings

It was fairly quiet at our weekly community lighthouse cafe this week so I did some prayer paintings for some of our regulars to encourage them. Each one carried a simple message and encouragement:

50 free hot drinks!

When I travel I love to sit back, relax and enjoy a good hot drink while reading. Good thing I don’t drive too often. I’m committed to taking public transport whenever I can so I can do this quite safely! I am often in and out of train stations, at least 4 times a month…

Counter-culture Halloween

“I thought Halloween was a no-no for churches. How come you’re doing this event?” A young dad with 2 children in tow asked me as we sat together carving pumpkins.  “It’s an opportunity for us to bring something beautiful in a time of fear and fright…” I explained.  And it’s true, I simply wanted…

Words of knowledge for healing…

On Tuesday I made coffee for most of the day. This was my view for most of it:  Tuesday’s are always busy making coffee: lattes, cappacinos, flat whites. I’m getting quite good.  I also have a lovely team that I work with who share the coffee making so I also have the privilege of talking…

Fresh expression of Church in Great Gransden

Yesterday I announced that Lighthouse cafe church will start on the 2nd Sunday of every month, 4-6 starting this September.  The announcement happened at a cafe event where local artist Kate Green exhibited some of her stunning work and spoke about her life as a Christian and an artist.  Before the event I shared with…

Micro paintings

In lighthouse cafe today I did some micro paintings for people. Each painting had a symbol of the cross and on the back a mix of words that related to the way I then attached the painting to a key on a simple key ring. The words were: Seek Open Knock Ask  Direct me The…

Brave

I felt tired yesterday. Sunday had been full on with speaking, travel and outreach and Monday was equally chocka with lecturing and travelling.  Running a cafe all day on the Tuesday was the last thing I felt like doing but instead of ‘just getting through it’ I prayed in the morning and the word ‘brave’…

Spreading hope

I finished this painting today at lighthouse cafe: ‘Spreading hope.’  The dandelion is ripe for the breath of the wind to scatter its seeds wherever the wind takes them. I was thinking about how hope is shared with those who lack. This is done in often random ways, and a small seemingly insignificant action can…
