I led a simple service of burying the ashes of my dad yesterday. It’s been a few months since he died and this was the time that all the family could gather.

In the hole that was dug for us was a surprise gift. A bit from a plough that had broken off… a plough-share.

I felt God speak. I wasn’t quite sure what, so we pondered this large unexpected gift found exactly positioned in the small hole for a small box.

“It means peace” my brother in law said and we remembered the scriptures that declare:

“They will hammer their swords into ploughshares and their spears into pruning hooks…” Micah 4.3 and Isaiah 2.4

My dad was a bringer of peace.

I also felt the Lord speak about ploughing ready to plant, a bit like that my dad had gone before us and prepared so much for us to sow in The Kingdom. There are two verses that speak of ploughing and sowing:

“Does a farmer always plow and never sow? Is he forever cultivating the soil and never planting?” Isaiah 28:24

“Plow up the hard ground of your hearts! Do not waste your good seed among thorns.” Jeremiah 4.3

Above it all it felt like we were known through that simple gift of a ploughshare. Of all the places it could have broken off and been buried in the soil from all those years ago… it was the exact spot we stood around and this felt quite special.

God bless you, and may you have a joy filled Christmas and know the Lord bring His peace to you.
