I can’t think of any other time of the year where it would be socially acceptable to stand up in a busy pub and sing songs about Jesus at the top of your voice and encourage others to also sing along with you!
And for there to be applause afterwards too, I mean it’s bizarre!
After our team Christmas lunch we sang some carols and because we had loads of amazing carol sheets from the Bible Society we were able to encourage others to join us.
Today we were joined by all kinds of people (some slightly drunk) who enjoyed listening and singing along to some carols which included lines like:
“Peace on earth and mercy mild
God and sinners reconciled”
And
All Hail! Lord, we greet Thee,
Born this happy morning,
O Jesus! for evermore be Thy name adored.
Word of the Father, now in flesh appearing;
O come, let us adore Him,
O come, let us adore Him,
O come, let us adore Him,
Christ the Lord.
While some carols are rather twee, the good news in some is just so powerful!
Encouraging others to join in was well received and one lady was so touched by the gesture she asked us lots of questions about what we do and why.
So, would you go and sing carols down your pub?
A great time of fellowship and praise and sharing.
It was so good!
