The idea is so so simple. Open up for an hour and invite people to receive prayer for healing. That’s it.
I joined Steven and Helen Anderson at Biggleswade Baptist church last night with their weekly ‘Healing Hour.’ They literally set aside an hour a week to invite people from the community to be ministered to. They have 2 teams and in an hour can usually pray for around 8 people.
It really wasn’t complicated.
Last night we prayed for 5. A real mixture of prayer needs: Prostrate cancer, hearing loss, aches and pains.
The two things that really excited me were:
1) The time we spent asking the Lord what words we should share with the people who came for prayer. One word I gave was a mans name whom the person being prayed for had been speaking to on the phone the previous evening. The word brought a lovely sense of being known by God.
2) The short time of worship we had together as a team that was an opportunity to meet afresh with Jeaus. To go from this encounter to praying for people felt so good!
The evening really did get me thinking about the message about Jesus that I seek to bring to others and how it is shown to be true with powerful signs when I have enough courage to pray for the sick or bring words from God’s heart to people.
Paul writes this:
“My message and my preaching were not with wise and persuasive words, but with a demonstration of the Spirit’s power” (1 Corinthians 2:4).
