I have recently read a book by Sister Lynda called ‘To Love you Only.’ Lynda who was part of the Sisters of Jesus way community in West Kirby on the Wirral. It is a rich, lavish with intimacy with God kind of book.
Within it Linda wrote a blessing which I also pray for you and in particularly for our students with Light Project College who start their studies this week in Theology, Mission and Evangelism.
‘Bless’ can seem a rather trite word. You sneeze, someone says it. Something is cute, you say ‘arrrrh bless.’ So what does it mean to ‘bless.’ It’s a gift given without any reason, a prayer offered out of compassion, a resourcing where people lack. It’s bringing a taste of heaven to earth. Blessing is asking for the resources from God that are underserved but readily available. Blessing isn’t about enough, its about too much with lots to spare.
The Lord bless you
The Lord bless you, Yahweh, the Almighty, the everlasting Father, for no one else can truly bless as He does and He delights to bless!
The Lord bless you! May he grant you the desires of your heart! May He give an abundant harvest, outwardly and inwardly may the fruits of the Spirit abound in your life- love, joy, peace, faithfulness and goodness- for the heart of God is the foundation of goodness.
The Lord bless you and you and you and each one of you! He has called each one of you by name. The Lord says, “I have redeemed you; I have summoned you by name; you are mine!”
The Lord bless you and keep you; may He protect you and keep you from harm as you journey with Him through the valleys of your troubles, your grieving, and upon the heights of your happiness! May the Lord protect you from the evil one, for He is your Good Shepherd who will keep you safe. he will go on ahead of you so that you need not fear. He hems you in behind and before and He lays His hand upon you.
The Lord make His face shine upon you. May the light of His face enfold you! May His radiance spread over you; as it did over Moses all those many centuries ago. May your face shine like his. May you reflect the radiance of God upon a dark and broken world.
The Lord be gracious to you; for the “LORD is compassionate and gracious, slow to anger and abounding in love.” May His grace abound to you, His beloved and underserving child! May His forgiveness be more real to you today then ever before, for His forgiveness flows from His grace.
The Lord turn His face towards you and give you peace. The Lord grant you His wholeness, His healing, His salvation, His Shalom! Jesus said, “Peace I leave you, my peace I give you… do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.” And so the Lord has put His name on you and me; He has put His special, distinctive stamp upon us because we belong to Him, we are His very own, we are truly His “Treasured Possession.”
