For my thoughts are not your thoughts, nor are your ways my ways, says your God.

I accidently came across this today as I was looking for a document in the depths of my computer. It felt too good not to share. It’s an old prayer that ‘spoke’ to me so powerfully many years ago when I spent some days up at the Sisters of Jesus Way in West Kirby.

It’s written by by Nicola Slee. IMG_9287

————————————–

You shall endure storms of chaos and floods of destruction,

While all that you once knew is perished,

So that I may bear you up upon the waters

And bring you into a world of which you have not dreamed.

For my thoughts are not your thoughts,

nor are your ways my ways, says your God.

You shall be driven into the wilderness,

Enduring aimless wonderings and futile disputations,

So that I may become your home and your harbour

And prepare you for the haven of heaven.

For my thoughts are not your thoughts,

nor are your ways my ways, says your God.

You shall be divided from mother and father,

And sister and brother shall betray you As that I may embrace you tenderly

And comfort you in my arms.

For my thoughts are not your thoughts,

nor are your ways my ways, says your God.

You shall doubt my providence and despair of your calling,

Fearing divine displeasure and delusion,

So that I may be with you even in absence

And teach your heart to trust when it fails.

For my thoughts are not your thoughts,

nor are your ways my ways, says your God.

You shall be taken out far beyond your strength and your understanding,

And, after enduring for a time and a season,

You shall endure and endure again,

So that I may become the God of your salvation

And perfect my glory in your flesh and your frailty.

For my thoughts are not your thoughts,

nor are your ways my ways, says your God.
