I wrote this poem last Sunday for Southgate Church and their all age service. They asked me to help them celebrate their 40th birthday with some community events, which were wonderfully lavish and bold. This poem could be used for Light parties or alternative Halloween events. I got half the congregation to shout out ‘Bri’ and ‘Lie’ and the other to shout out ‘Tea’. Connecting the two you get ‘Bri-tea lie-tea’ It’s a bit of fun!
It’s mighty frighty to be a brighty lighty
When my mates ask what I did over the weekend
It’s easier to say: ummmmm, aaaaarrrh, nothing much
Watched some TV
Went to the park
I keep the God-stuff in the dark
It’s mighty fighty to be a brighty lighty
It’s better for me to bury what I have
Than shine on bright
To show and tell
To make people well
To help and be and let others see
The life of the one who is given so free
It’s mighty fighty to be a brighty lighty
What if people where to see
At school, work or when I’m up a tree
The Light of the world shining so differently
Beams of hope for the broken, bruised and battered due to the lack of light.
Even though it’s mighty fighty to be a brighty lighty
Help me to shine with the mighty almighty and be a brighty lighty
Help me to shine with the mighty almighty and be a brighty lighty!
