While I understand this idea and terminology (we all have or have had a broken relationship with God) I would much prefer to start with the ideas of people’s worth, value and ‘made in God’s image-ness.’ To see that, while our relationship with God may be bust, his relationship towards us is beautifully infinite and he sees and knows each one of his children that live in this world. I want to show that people are known and loved deeply by God, so much so that he would give His very best for them.
I’ve recently used creative ways of engaging with people to encourage them to think of what God thinks of them. Like a simple mirror with some simple words (above) Or take the circle prayer for example, such an easy thing to ask people to consider what they would like afar and what they would like near.
(Now read it again)
One guy kept reading the sign seeing the words ‘God is nowhere’- he then saw the other way of reading it and wanted to ask us questions why we believed God was with us.
Another guy walked out of the cathedral having spent a while asking God where he was… He was at quite a crossroads, of uncertainty and doubts. He read our sign and realised that we were there for him… The sign made sense to him and he asked for prayer.
What other ways could you show what God thinks of people and to engage in conversation from a positive start point, of people’s worth and value? What do you think of the simple ways I choose to communicate something of good news? Would you choose to listen to sometime instead of talk at them?
