A couple of weeks back I did something new. I painted at a conference during the ‘worship time.’ You know, that time the band lead those gathered in songs of worship for 30 minutes or so.
For me, to paint at that time was a liberating experience. To express my thanks and love to God through other means than songs felt refreshing, really engaging.
Don’t get me wrong, I love to sing, dance and cheer when given the opportunity, but to paint something for others to join in with as well as pictures for those around me, well it was a rich spiritual experience!
Others seemed to get something from it too. A theme that flowed at the conference was about being loved. I wrote up ‘I am love… And then added the ‘d.’ The challenge was for people to add their name and ‘label themselves’ and say, yes, I am loved!
At one point in worship this simple challenge to add a name had quite a number respond…
As well as pictures for people to participate with, I also did some simple watercolours and gave them to those around me, as I felt led to do so. The hope was to encourage those around me and bring something that would connect with them with something that, perhaps, God was saying. Here’s an example of some of the pictures I did:
