A couple of weeks back I did something new. I painted at a conference during the ‘worship time.’ You know, that time the band lead those gathered in songs of worship for 30 minutes or so.

For me, to paint at that time was a liberating experience. To express my thanks and love to God through other means than songs felt refreshing, really engaging.

Don’t get me wrong, I love to sing, dance and cheer when given the opportunity, but to paint something for others to join in with as well as pictures for those around me, well it was a rich spiritual experience!

Others seemed to get something from it too. A theme that flowed at the conference was about being loved. I wrote up ‘I am love… And then added the ‘d.’ The challenge was for people to add their name and ‘label themselves’ and say, yes, I am loved!

At one point in worship this simple challenge to add a name had quite a number respond…

As well as pictures for people to participate with, I also did some simple watercolours and gave them to those around me, as I felt led to do so. The hope was to encourage those around me and bring something that would connect with them with something that, perhaps, God was saying. Here’s an example of some of the pictures I did:

That is great. This is something we do often during worship, in fact the banner on our website (www.ancl.co.uk) came from one such occasion.

    Love what you are doing.

    Be blessed

  2. Dear Pastor Chris, Greetings from Orlando. As usual, thank you for sharing your Posts on ~ “BE THE LIGHT!” This was a unique and wonderful undertaking as you yielded to the Leading of The Holy Spirit! All we have to do is follow when He prompts us because He knows exactly what would stir the hearts of those who were present at that particular conference. Blessings in abundant on the work of your hands, on your ministry, life and your family in 2014 and beyond. Pastor Pauline (Orlando, Florida)

  3. Loved reading this. I would love to step out into this. I love your idea about involving people in creating the art and allowing them a place to make a response. At the moment I paint postcard sized watercolours of what I feel God has to say to people and give them out a bit like you do. My favourite is to join a team of Jesus-followers at our local MBS fair. I usually paint and pray for about 40 wonderful seekers-after-more there each day. If you haven’t tried it you should! Several people have come back the following year, brought out the postcard I painted for them and said that they want this Jesus in their lives.. what an honour. Ellie
